Car Fires- When we think about fires we normally don’t relate this to the summer heat and our vehicles. But as the summer months roll in and temperatures begin to rise, getting your vehicle checked could save you from a disaster.

Here is some data from the Texas Department of Insurance, in 2016 there were 13,390 car fires around the state. Eighty-four of them were in Brazos County. The highest spike in incidents throughout the year was in the summer months.

It is important to recognize any signs of fire by any signs of smoke or smell of smoke or burning. Most of the car fires come from the engine compartment. Anything that could be leaking in your car engine could cause a fire. It can spark if it is hot enough.

There is a part of the engine that is above the exhaust and if oil leaks on top it, the oil may easily  start a fire.

It is important to check your car regularly especially before making a long trip especially in the hot summer months.

It is a good idea to weekly pop your hood and check the oil and other fluids.

Please remember if you ever see smoke or fire coming for the vehicle, your first priority is you and other people in your car safety. Nothing in your car is more important that you and your passengers.
